In Champaign, the best-known bakeries and bagel shops have lines on weekend mornings, so arrive early or order ahead where the shop offers it. Across Illinois, immigrant bakeries add Mexican pan dulce, Vietnamese banh mi bread, Chinese buns, Middle Eastern sweets and European rye to the mix, and many gluten-free and vegan bakeries have opened in larger cities. Check the listing for hours, whether the shop accepts custom cake orders and its Google rating before you go, and call about allergens, since small kitchens often share equipment. The staff here is always friendly, the baked good are fabulous (get a cruffin filled with whatever the seasonal special is you won't regret it) the coffee is excellent and never over sweet if you get something special. It's got that perfect small neighborhood cafe vibe going on. There's always fun nicknaks to peruse and interestig art on the walls. Life doesn't exactly move fast in Champaign, but if you need a place to visit where things can slow down for you this is the perfect chill spot.

Got the Ham and Havarti croissant, warmed up for dinner. It was mostly croissant, and I got a small taste of some Dijon mustard. I was a little disappointed to say the least. Tasted the lemon bar and I doubt I can eat thatβ¦it is very tart! Iβll try something else next time! Beautiful location and a very hip vibe!

This is a cute little business in the heart of a beautiful Champaign neighborhood. The parking lot is very small, but there is plenty of street parking around the block. The chai latte was absolutely amazing, but the blackberry/rhubarb scone was a little drier than I'd have liked. I bought some nice candles here too. They have a lovely gift selection!

Do not order cupcakes from Hopscotch Bakery. My cupcakes for a birthday party were burned (see photo). They had too much salt which was located/pooled at the bottom of the cupcakes. The cupcakes should have tasted much better given their appearance. They were pleasing to the eyes; however, not to the taste & it was disappointing. In other words, they tasted nasty! The cake itself was dense; similar to corn muffins, & were not light & fluffy like cake. The cake tasted like corn muffins & most of the kids at our party would not eat them - at all. Comments such as, "I don't like these," was common & I agree. If I made cupcakes this way at home, I would have thrown them all away & started over. The frosting was thick & there was far too much of it on such a small cake. The cost was roughly $3.00 per cupcake & most of them were waisted. Customer service is problematic as well to me. They do not answer the phone & only want customers to text them for bakery questions. They give short answers via text & send mostly automated responses. They just are not very helpful with your order. No options to tailor your order to your personal specifications which frustrated me. No allergy options. In

I feel the need to say I am an OG Hopscotch lover. I was there on opening day, and I will continue to support small businesses. Especially those located in neighborhoods. I enjoy Hopscotch, but as of late, there have been many things that cannot go unnoticed anymore. The Cons: 1. I think they need to close for a few days for maintenance/cleaning. There are many small things that are broken or don't have a polished appearance: a leak spot on the ceiling that has been there for well over 1.5 years, the wall under the windows is crumbling, and the light above the bar doesn't look secure. All these things might seem insignificant, but they make a big difference in the cafe's atmosphere, appearance, and cleanliness. Additionally, they have a beautiful and new case for pastries that appears to be broken. Why have something you can use to display drinks and pasties, and not use it? 2. Nearly all the merchandise in the store is thrifted items. There is nothing inherently wrong with reselling thrifted items. However, I wish there were more new options. Hopscotch used to feature a large selection of local and regional artists who were vendors, selling jewelry, pottery, candles, and more. I
